Bedtime ritual

Since our DS was little, we've always had about the same bedtime schedule. Playtime in his room, story, bath, jammies. Then he would get a bottle in our bedroom. He would fall asleep while I burped him and then I take him to his room and lay him down while asleep.

I'm thinking at some point, we will need to stop the bottle right before bed and lay him down in his room while still awake and have him fall asleep on his own.

Any ideas on the best way to do this? I am not a fan of CIO. Any ideas are appreciated.
