When is it safe?

DH and I have yet to buy anything yet for baby. We think we have decided that in 2 weeks after our anatomy scan, if everything goes well, we will register and start buying furniture. Is 20 weeks too soon? We have waited this long, because we didn't want to buy things and have them around the house if something went wrong. Do you think we should be okay to start buying and registering after 20 weeks? I know nothing is certain until you are holding a healthy baby, but just wanted to be as safe as possible. TIA.
