Sleeping Issues

Lil man is almost 1 (on Thursday yay!) but recently he hasnt been sleeping through the night. He's been waking up at least once during the night. I know there is no rule about children having to sleep through the night but hes almost one and my husband and i think he should be sleeping through the next especially since he goes down between 8 and 9 and is always up around 5:30-6:00. Ideas? we thought it was teething but its been close to a month and we havent seen any new teeth coming,

We tried to let him cry it out but it hasnt worked he just crys bloody murder.
