low vitamin D

So my blood test results from my first OB appointment came back and it turns out that my vitamin D level is low.  She told me to take 2000 IU of vitamin D pills.  According to the bottle that is 500% of my RDA.  Obviously my nutrition needs are different when I'm pregnant with twins, but that still seems like a whole heck of a lot.  Has anyone else had to take vitamin D supplements?  Especially at this dose?
