First, the bottom one was used to confine my puppy to the upstairs to help potty train her. Secondly, we installed the top one to keep her upstairs when she learned to jump over the first (and subsequently fall down the stairs which were a few steps away from the gate).

Then, it kept LO from falling down the stairs, its obvious intent.

Now, it is a CD drying rack since our basement is like 40 degrees where the real clothesline is.
