CD with solid foods

One of my main reasons for choosing to CD was the minimal expense.  DD is 2 months old and so far we've made it through with a couple dozen prefolds and 5 Thirsties duo covers, and it's been really easy.

So my question is, when she moves on to solid foods at 6 months are the prefolds and Thirsties covers going to be enough?  It seems like most people on this board prefer the fitted or AIO, which aren't really financially possible for us.  Anyone using prefolds and Thirsties covers with an older baby/toddler?  Any ideas for less expensive diapering?
