Stripping Dipes question

I think I need to strip my diapers because we have an ammonia smell when they get peed on.

 I've never done this and I understand there are 2 possible ways- running through 2-3 hot washes without soap until there are no suds or washing once on hot with a squirt of the blue Dawn dish soap.

Which way do you prefer to strip your diapers?  Is this really the solution with the ammonia smell, or do I need to do something else?
